Application And Properties of Glass Wool

Sep. 20, 2022

Glass wool is a fibrous material made from raw molten or broken glass. It consists of two types: loose wool and superfine wool. The fibres of loose wool are 50 to 150 mm long and 12 x 10 to 3 mm in diameter. In contrast, the fibres of superfine wool are much finer in diameter, usually under 4 × 10 - 3 mm. It is also known as ultrafine glass wool.

Loose wool can be used to make bitumen-bonded glass blankets and glass wool sheets. Superfine glass wool is used to make ordinary superfine glass blankets, glass wool panels, alkali-free superfine glass blankets, and high oxygen silica superfine glass blankets and is also used for external wall protection construction and pipe insulation.

Glass wool internal fibres are fluffy and interlaced, with a large number of small holes, it is a typical porous sound-absorbing material with good sound absorption properties. Centrifugal glass wool can be made into walls, ceilings, suspended ceilings and other sound absorbing body, perforated metal panels, can absorb a large amount of sound energy in the room, reduce the reverberation time, help to improve the clarity of speech, but also help to reduce indoor noise.

Centrifugal glass wool insulation in lightweight infill walls will not only work well but will also improve the performance of the wall insulation even more substantially, helping to isolate noise and also helping to ensure the privacy of indoor conversations. Duct linings or fan covers made from centrifugal glass wool can have a noise-reducing effect, helping to reduce vibration noise from ducts and machinery and making air conditioning systems quieter. Centrifugal glass wool has good flexibility and can be used as the main cushioning material for floor vibrations, greatly reducing the impact of noise generated by footsteps, running and dragging objects from upstairs on the rooms below.

The acoustic properties of glass wool are not only related to thickness and density, but also to laminated materials, structure and other factors. Architectural applications need to consider cost, aesthetics, fire, moisture, dust, anti-ageing and many other issues.

Glass wool decorative sound-absorbing panels

Glass wool decorative acoustic panels are ceiling decorative panels produced from glass wool as the main raw material, adding a certain amount of adhesives, moisture-proofing agents, anti-corrosion agents, etc., by pressing, drying and other processes. The surface treatment is usually PVC film and aluminium foil with a pattern. The film and foil have a large number of openings and therefore have a good sound absorption effect.

Its products are light, sound-absorbing, fireproof, heat-insulating and insulating; they are beautifully decorated and easy to construct. Glass wool decorative sound-absorbing panels can be used in hotels, halls, theatres, concert halls, stadiums, conference rooms, ships and the interior ceiling of houses.
